JOHOR BARU: The flood situation saw a minor increase in Johor as of 12.30pm today in mainly in the Segamat and Batu Pahat districts.
The increase saw a total of 181 flood victims from 44 families in the seven temporary flood relief centres in the two districts in the state.
At present, Batu Pahat has maintained its two relief centres, while Segamat has five relief centres for the public.
Yesterday saw 148 victims from 41 families at 4.30pm as reported by the National Security Council (NSC).
Johor NSC principal assistant secretary Azura Muhammed Kifli said the slight increase in flood victims in Segamat was due to the overflowing Ulu Muar river.
"This is mainly due to the spillover effect from Gemencheh and Gemas in Negeri Sembilan where the excess water has flooded the Ulu Muar river," she said when contacted today.
However, Azura assured the public that the situation is under control as the spillover effect is only a temporary occurrence.
"We (NSC) are monitoring the situation closely. But rest assured that most of the other districts have not reported any rise in water levels due to the favourable weather in Johor," she said.
