GEORGE TOWN: The water level at Air Itam Dam here continues to record a decline, believed due to the prolonged hot weather.

The effective capacity of the dam was recorded at 59.4 per cent today (Sunday), compared to 60.4 per cent on Friday

Based on the Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) website, the water level at Teluk Bahang Dam is 74.7 per cent, while Mengkuang Dam is 45.9 per cent.

Prior to this, PBAPP's chief executive officer Datuk Jaseni Maidinsa was reported to have said the water reserve at the Itam Dam recorded a decline of up to 31.8 per cent within two months.

He said the effective rate of water storage at the dam earlier this year was at 92.2 per cent before it dropped drastically to below 60 per cent.

Additionally, he said, the Sungai Muda in Kedah which supplied major raw water to the state also recorded a significant decrease of 1.55 meters, compared to 2.35 meters on Jan 1.
