LAHAD DATU: Marine police have seized 250 turtle eggs from the Lahad Datu wet market here yesterday (July 12).

In the 10am operation, the eggs, worth RM500, were found in a bucket and a basket near the market's chicken slaughter station.

Marine Police Region 4 Commander Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Pajeri Ali said the operation was conducted following intelligence gathering and monitoring by the team in the district.

"Our inspection managed to foil their attempt to sell those eggs to the public," he said in a statement.

However, he said, police did not make any arrests as no one admitted to owning the eggs.

Police brought the eggs to the agency operation centre for documentation before handing them over to Sabah Wildlife Department.

The case is being investigated under Wildlife Conservation Enactment 1997.
